CHICAGO -- Illinois Comptroller Leslie Munger joined WGN-TV over the phone Tuesday morning to discuss the state's ongoing budget stalemate.

Not a single Illinois lawmaker has stepped forward to challenge Munger's order that legislative paychecks be added to the backlog of unpaid state bills.

That could mean a two-month delay in getting paid. But lawmakers know that openly challenging Munger's tactic in an election year wouldn't look very good. Still, Democrats aren't shy about calling it a political ploy.

Munger faces a special election in the fall against Democratic challenger Susana Mendoza.
