CHICAGO — An employee at Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo was taken to the hospital Saturday after suffering a bite from a rhinoceros at the facility.

The zoo said in a statement that an animal care staff member was bitten by an Eastern black rhinoceros Saturday morning during a routine training session.

The zoo did not identify the employee in its statement.

The employee was bitten on the finger and taken to the hospital for treatment. The rhino was not injured. The employee was treated and released from the hospital Saturday at roughly 2 p.m.

According to the zoo, animals will continue to have access to both their outdoor and indoor spaces Saturday and exhibits will continue as usual.
