Firefighter injured in fire at U.S. Cellular Field on home opener

CHICAGO -- A firefighter was injured after responding to a fire at U.S. Cellular Field.

The fire started around 2:25 a.m. Friday inside a storage room near Gate 2 on the first floor of the White Sox Stadium located at 333 W 35th St.

The fire was contained to that area and was put out within a half hour.

One firefighter left in an ambulance with a non-life threatening injury. He was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center for treatment.

As for the fire, the White Sox say nothing important was damaged. The Sox say everything remains on schedule for opening day later this afternoon.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is unclear at this time how or why the fire started.
