PHOENIX, Ariz. - It looked bad when it happened, and now Cubs fans' worst fears have come true.

Kyle Schwarber is out for the year with a torn ACL & LCL, according to beat reporters.

Schwarber collided with Dexter Fowler last night in the outfield while running down a fly ball.

Initial x-rays on his left ankle were negative, but an MRI on his left knee today revealed a full tear.

The team says Schwarber will require season-ending knee surgery and has since been placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Munenori Kawasaki will take Schwarber's spot on the roster.

No word yet if minor league catcher Wilson Contreras will be called up to bolster the Cubs catching corps.
