ROUND LAKE, Ill. -- Pizza Place has been a Round Lake staple since 1975.

But on August 2, 2015, everything changed.

An F-1 tornado touched down and traveled across the area into neighboring Grayslake in Lake County. Surveillance cameras captured what happened when Pizza Place took a direct hit.

The next morning, as WGN’s Skycam 9 was flying above the area, Pizza Place’s owner, Jean McCue, and the community were gathering all of the personal items they could find.

The building was a total loss, but the property has been in Jean's family for generations. She knew she had to rebuild. Over the fall and winter, the building was torn down, reimagined and reconstructed.

Pizza Place reopened its doors again for the first time last week.
