Melodie Gliniewicz

WAUKEGAN, Ill. —  The widow of the disgraced Fox Lake police lieutenant Joe Gliniewicz pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges Wednesday.

Melodie Gliniewicz, 51, was indicted on charges of conspiring with her husband to embezzle money from the police department’s “Youth Explorer’s Program.” The police lieutenant committed suicide last year.

Melodie Gliniewicz has already pled not guilty to charges of money laundering and misuse of charity funds.

The conspiracy charges would not add to the maximum sentence she already faced on the original indictments. Officials have said she could receive probation or up to seven years in prison if convicted.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 17.
