CORONADO, Calif. –- A dog lost at sea for more than a month has been found.

The one-and-a-half-year-old German Shepherd named Luna fell off a fishing boat in the Pacific Ocean nearly five weeks ago, KSWB reports.

Her owner assumed she was dead, but as fate would have it Luna survived.

She somehow managed to swim to San Clemente Island, which is owned and operated by the U.S. Navy. Naval staff at a landing field there said Luna approached them.

On Wednesday, Luna was reunited with her family.

Staffers thinks she survived by eating birds, fish and rodents.
