CHICAGO — Happy birthday, M&M’s! The candy turns 75 years old today.

Keep an eye out for new colors, flavors, textures and fillings. M&M’s were created in 1941, when troops fighting World War II requested chocolate with a hard exterior that wouldn’t melt.

By the time the war ended, the troops were hooked on the candy, so Mars started selling them to regular customers in 1947.

Look for retro packaging starting this month.
