Police warn residents after Wicker Park, Humboldt Park armed robberies

CHICAGO -- Police are warning of a group of men who are robbing people in Wicker Park and nearby Humboldt Park.

On one occasion, a 28-year-old man was hit in the head with a handgun.

One robbery happened around 1:28 a.m. Feb. 21 in the 1200 block of North Ashland Avenue, the same block as the CTA Blue Line Division "L" stop, according to a police community alert.

The others a little after 9 pm Friday and just before 4 a.m. Sunday — those happening in the 1200 block of North Spaulding Avenue.

According to police, two to four robbers whose descriptions are vague approached the victims and demand cash or other valuables.

The robbers fled described as either gray or black, possibly a 1990s Chevy.

Tonight police offer these tips:

  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • Report any suspicious persons or vehicles in these areas.
  • Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of the offenders including any vehicle descriptions, license plate information, and direction of flight, if known.
