WAUKEGAN, Ill. — Lake County Major Crimes Task Force commander George Filenko is resigning.

His retirement is effective April 1, but he will remain on Task Force in an advisory capacity, as needed.

Filenko led the investigation into the death of officer Joe Gliniewicz’s, which was eventually ruled a suicide.

He also interrogated Melissa Calusinski, a daycare worker who was accused of killing a child in 2009.

She was convicted of the boy’s death, but is seeking a new trial based on defense claims that X-rays show the child suffered from a pre-existing condition.
