EVANSTON, Ill. — An Evanston police officer is charged in a hit-and-run accident in Indiana.

Daniel Kooi lives in Lansing. He was driving in Hammond last August when he turned in front of a motorcyclist, knocked him down, and didn’t stay to help the injured rider.

Kooi was charged Friday with leaving the scene of an accident. He’s now on unpaid leave from his police job.
