LOS ANGELES — Oscar host Chris Rock’s stunt to sell Girl Scout cookies to the Oscar audience Sunday night turned a profit, but not as much as Rock first reported.
Stars like John Legend and Matt Damon dug into their pockets to buy cookies.
During the broadcast, Rock said the crowd bought $65,000 in cookies, but a Girl Scout representative said the total was just a joke for the skit.
The Scouts sold 500 boxes of cookies at the event at $5 apiece. That came to $2,500 dollars and far short of what the tote board had read.
And the money won’t go to his daughters’ troop, which is in New York.
The beneficiaries will be girls from a troop in Inglewood, California.
