CHICAGO -- It is a hotly contested race this primary season: Chicago’s Fifth District seat in the Illinois House.

Two of the state’s most powerful politicians are each backing a candidate with a lot of campaign cash.

The candidates debated in the South Loop tonight.

This comes down to a clash between Gov. Bruce Rauner and house speaker Mike Madigan over the delicate balance of power in the general assembly.

And at times, it was unclear whether the incumbent was debating his opponent … or the Democratic Party boss.
