CHICAGO - In 1999, Saint Xavier University didn't have a women's basketball program.

Now, they're one of the best in the country.

The Cougars have won at least 20 games each of the past 16 seasons.

Last year, they made it all the way to the National Championship Quarterfinals.

But, never in school history had a Saint Xavier team held the #1 ranking in the NAIA Division II national poll - a title this year's squad kept for a record eight weeks.

Coach Bob Hallberg and the Cougars begin their quest for a National Championship tomorrow at home against Indiana University - South in the opening round of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament.

Win or lose, they'll be headed back to the big dance with plenty of experience as the top dog in their back pocket.
