CHICAGO – A new app to help prevent suicide has been developed by high school students after some of their classmates took their own lives.
Jonathan Vega, 15, and Jelani Jackson, 14, are freshman honor students at Holy Trinity High School in Chicago.
They created Aegis, a bracelet and an app which someday could help prevent suicide.
It’s named after a mythological word for shield or protection.
The duo won the “World Series of Innovation,” an international competition with nearly 2000 teams, last semester.
This is the second year Holy Trinity participated in the competition and Jelani and Jonathan took home $1000 each.
But they’re more concerned that Aegis will make a difference in someone’s life.
