CHICAGO — Chicago residents will be paying a new utility bill this spring.

Trash fees, approved back in January, take effect in April. The $9.50 garbage collection fee will be part of a new “unified utility bill” that also includes water and sewage charges.

Homeowners and landlords with water meters will be billed every two months.

Residents without meters will be on a six-month cycle.

The bills will be retroactive to January. But late fees will not be imposed until the end of the year.
