MERRILLVILLE, Ind. -- Police in Merrillville are investigating the shooting deaths of three family members in an apparent murder suicide.

Officers were called for a well-being check Sunday at a home on W. 79th Ave.

Inside, they found the bodies of 66-year-old John Meeks, his wife 65-year-old Olga Meeks, and their son, 34-year-old Eric Meeks.

Investigators believe Eric Meeks shot his parents, and then himself.

Police had been called to the home at least once before.  They says at least one of the family members may have had mental issues.

It appears the shootings took place Saturday; investigators are trying to determine the shooter’s motive.
