ROSELLE, Ill. -- The owner of a suburban pizzeria was killed after a van slammed into his restaurant.

Gus Acuna was the chef and and owner of Acuna Pizza in Roselle, Ill.

He was killed and two other people were injured Wednesday when the driver of a van went off the road and hit a light pole and parked car before crashing into the restaurant.

Police believe that driver may have had a medical emergency. The accident is still under investigation.

Acuna Pizza issued a statement about the owner's passing on its Facebook page:

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of owner and chef, Gus Acuna. Our small pizzeria has come a long way from when we first opened doors on July of 2010. It began with Gus dreaming of providing something better for our family and the residents of Roselle. He led by ambition and by taking risks. Demonstrating that hard work pays off in the end. Almost six years later, we are proud of what Gus was able to accomplish. Our future plans are unknown as of right now, but we want to thank our loyal customers for supporting us through this journey."

Acuna leaves behind a wife and three children.
