University of Chicago Medicine seeks OK for $269M expansion

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago confirms it has asked Illinois regulators to approve a plan to expand emergency care at the U of C Medical Center.

Trauma care, currently available only to children, would be expanded to include adults, and Bernard Mitchell Hospital would be turned into a cancer facility.

The $269 million expansion proposal, would increase capacity by nearly 200 beds and expand the emergency room.

The project would also improve south siders’ access to orthopedic medicine and cardiovascular care.
