CHAMPAIGN – It’s been almost three months since Illinois let go of athletic director Mike Thomas after a rough finish to his tenure at the school.

Now it appears that the school is finally ready to name a permanent replacement.

According to a report in the Chicago Tribune, Illinois will hire Josh Whitman as their permanent athletic director.

Whitman, who played football at Illinois in the late 1990s and early 200s, has been the athletic director at Division III Washington University in St. Louis since August of 2014.

He was previously the athletic director for four years at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Whitman got his start in athletics administration at Illinois back in 2005 as the Coordinator of Special Projects for two years and then was an assistant to the Athletic Director in 2007 and 2008.
