CHICAGO -- Alderman and legal activists are demanding a special prosecutor take over the investigation of the Laquan McDonald shooting.

Officer Jason Van Dyke already has been charged with first degree murder but activists say other officers also should face charges.

They say Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez has a conflict of interest and is too closely aligned with the Fraternal Order of Police to effectively lead the investigation.

Alvarez has not responded to the call for a special prosecutor, but previously defended her actions citing an ongoing federal investigation.
