Tips:

Wider tires perform better on messy roads.

You can also lower the tire pressure on other tires by a few pounds to increase traction.

Add lights to front and rear to increase visibility.

Whatever bike you use, clean it after each use to avoid build-up of mud, salt and residue.

Make yourself as visible as possible.

Ride further away from the curb or road shoulder to avoid leaves and other winter debris that may be slippery.

Allow extra time to stop safely.

Watch out for black ice.
