‘The Revenant’ named best picture at BAFTAs

LONDON — Endurance epic “The Revenant” has been named best picture at the British Academy Film Awards, while its star Leonardo DiCaprio won the best actor prize.

Alejandro G. Inarritu took the best director trophy on Sunday for the saga of a fur trapper fighting for his life in a pitiless 19th-century U.S. West.

Brie Larson won the best actress prize for “Room.”

The British awards, known as BAFTAs, are considered a portent of success at Hollywood’s Feb. 28 Academy Awards.
