CHICAGO -- A 16-year-old girl was shot in the leg in Chicago's West Humboldt Park.

The shooting happened at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Kildare Avenue and Hirsch Street.

She was taken in stable condition to Illinois Masonic Hospital.

Initial reports were that the girl may have been on her way to school.

Police are investigating whether the shooting was related to a U-Haul truck crash in the area around the same time.

A neighbor said she heard up to six shots near the intersection, then saw the U-Haul crash into three or four cars.

The neighbor said she went over to the truck and heard the driver tell police that someone in a car shot at him and then sped off.
