CHICAGO — Construction has begun for the demolition of the deteriorating overpass at Western and Belmont.

The actual demolition is slated to start on March 1. In the meantime, if that’s an area you drive though, prepare for construction headaches and adding time to your commute as Western Avenue will be reduced to a single lane each way between George and Roscoe streets.

Ultimately the overpass will be replaced with a five-way intersection with Clybourn. The department of transportation says the project should be completed by summer 2017.
