CHICAGO -- Commuters used to heavy traffic on the Stevenson Expressway may soon see some relief.

Governor Rauner on Thursday pushed for a plan to add at least one express lane in each direction between I-355 and the Dan Ryan Expressway. Right now, 170,000 vehicles use this 25-mile section each day.

Construction could start next year, and be completed by 2019.

No price tag yet on the proposal.

Rauner says the plan will look at managed car pool lanes and tolling. The cost of using an extra lane could depend on the traffic and time of day.

Pace already uses the shoulder on I-55.
