CHICAGO-- A man is being questioned in the beating death of a fellow Illinois Institute of Technology student.
Police say an argument broke out early Thursday morning that got physical.

The 36-year-old was getting set to graduate this spring, the school tells us he was well liked and right now-- we don’t know what led up to the fight.

The beating happened outside one of the campus buildings at IIT Police say Jermiron Morris, who went by Jay, was walking with a 43-year-old student around 5:00 a.m.

When police arrived they found Morris bleeding.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting he was beat with a tree branch.

Morris was rushed to Northwestern Memorial in critical condition but died a short time later.

According to Morris’ school profile page, back in 2014 he had won a scholarship to study in China. He was in his 5th year at IIT.

The 43-year-old was taken into custody and has not been charged in the case, though police believe that will happen shortly.
