DETROIT — A 15-year-old boy is recovering from a heart transplant — and he showed his overwhelming emotion just after the surgery, when he realized he was alive.

“I’m so happy. I’ve been waiting so long. I can breathe again,” Trevor Sullivan said, visibly relieved when he woke up from surgery.

Due to his enlarged heart, he was never able to breathe properly. He said it feels incredible.

Trevor started getting sick in 2014. Then last November, the family got the call they were waiting for — a heart had been found. Soon after, Trevor was whisked into surgery.

Doctors say he is recovering beautifully.
