CHICAGO -- A major reconstruction project downtown means the Adams Street Bridge will be closing for more than a year.

Starting tonight the bridge across the South Branch of the Chicago river will close to car and truck traffic.

Pedestrians will still be able to use the bridge except for a couple of months later this year.

Many commuters use the Adams Street Bridge to reach Union Station.

The closure also will affect seven CTA bus routes downtown.
