Loyola student shot in Rogers Park

CHICAGO -  A 19-year-old student at Loyola University was shot and critically injured as she walked near the Rogers Park campus Friday night.

Chicago Police say the woman was walking with friends in the 6700 block of North Clark Street at about 9:15 p.m. Friday when someone in a passing car fired several shots.

The woman was struck in the lower back and was taken in critical condition to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Police say she was not the intended target of the gunman. She is expected to survive.

Witnesses say a gray-colored Nissan Altima drove away from the scene.

Loyola University officials posted a safety alert on its website, confirming shots were fired near campus.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 911.
