LISLE, Ill. -- Metra BNSF trains were being delayed Saturday night following a crash involving an Amtrak train.

BNSF trains are stopped near Lisle after an Amtrak train struck a welding truck, a Metra spokesperson said.

The accident happened at least by 6:40, and likely earlier than that, said Meg Reile, a Metra spokewoman. Metal gets brittle when it’s cold so track welders were doing some work in the Lisle area, she said.

"BNSF Railway inbound and outbound trains remain stopped near Lisle due to an accident involving an Amtrak train, extensive delays are expected. The duration of this delay is unknown," Metra said in an alert a little before 7 p.m.
