CHICAGO -- Chicago police and Illinois State Police are investigating after a man was shot on the Kennedy Expressway Saturday morning.  He was driven to Northwestern, where he remains hospitalized.

Shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday, Illinois State Police responded to a call of a gunshot victim already at Northwestern. State police spokesman Santos Orta says their preliminary investigation revealed that someone shot at the victim's car while both were traveling on the outbound Kennedy between Kostner and the Edens Junction.

A 22-year-old passenger in the van was shot in the abdomen. He is expected to be OK.

Illinois State Police closed down a portion of the expressway for quite some time as they looked for shell casings and other evidence.

The bullet-riddled van, meanwhile, sat outside of the hospital for several hours as police processed the vehicle as well.

The investigation into the shooting continues.
