After news of David Bowie’s passing broke Monday, people around the world shared memories of the music icon.

One of the videos that surfaced was a 1983 interview Bowie did with MTV veejay Mark Goodman as part of a press junket for his commercially successful “Let’s Dance.”

“It occurred to me that, having watched MTV over the last few months, that it’s a solid enterprise and it’s got a lot going for it,” Bowie said in the interview. “I’m just floored by the fact that there are … so few black artists featured on it. Why is that?”
