State Police investigating crash, possible shooting on Dan Ryan

CHICAGO –  The Illinois State Police is investigating a crash and possible shooting on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

It happened just before 7 a.m.  in the southbound lanes of the Dan Ryan near 71st Street.

Police say a silver sedan was involved in a single car crash and struck the median wall.

No one was inside the car when officers arrived on the scene.

Witnesses say several people took off on foot and were arrested a short time later.

Police are not confirming arrests at this time.

The ramp to the Indiana Tollway was closed down for a short time as authorities investigated the scene and towed the car.

State Troopers were seen marking bullet casings on the ground, near the crash site.

However, police not confirming if there was a shooting.

All lanes of traffic were re-opened by 9 a.m.
