Flooding to blame for at least 18 deaths in Illinois, Missouri

CHICAGO – Major flooding has now played a role in at least 18 deaths across both Missouri and Illinois, at least 13 of which happened in Missouri.

On the Missouri side, the National Guard is now stepping up, helping first responders provide security in evacuated areas, and directing traffic away from road closures.

The Coast Guard has also closed a portion of the Mississippi River near St. Louis, as the mighty river approaches near-historic levels in the city. Record flooding is also projected in some towns along the river/
