Nicole's Suggestions:

Face (Skincare):
Most people cringe when they hear oil and face in the same sentence but in fact oil-based cleansers are high tech, they won’t break you out and they’re great for absorbing grease without drying out skin, which makes them the ideal choice for winter skincare. I really like the new Vichy Purete Thermal Cleansing Micellar Oil because it thoroughly cleanses and has nourishing camellia oil.

Face (Treatment):
The biggest complaints about skin in the winter are dullness and dryness. The easiest way to can combat these two issues is by incorporating a mask into your beauty routine. Avon ANEW Clinical Overnight Hydration Mask is a lightweight gel that adds intense moisture with hyaluronic acid and shea butter. I love that it’s low maintenance --  just apply before bed 3 nights a week, so you don’t have to wait to rub off.

Once your body gets dry and itchy, it’s too late because you’re busy chasing the itch. Before that happens, you can get ahead of the ball with Curel’s new Itch Defense Body Wash that actually breaks the cycle so you can stop the itch before it begins. It’s soap-free and fragrance free with hydrating ingredients like jojoba and olive oils, plus it’s gentle enough to use on eczema prone skin.

Makeup: As for makeup, it’s all about giving your skin a healthy glow. As we talked about, our skin becomes more dull and pale in the winter, so we need to bring back that radiance. I’m a fan of Neutrogena Healthy Skin Blends because they’re available in a blush and bronzer and are sheer, mosaic powders that easily blend together to enhance a variety of skin tones. Definitely a must-have to create a holiday makeup look.

Between chips, cracks and peeling, winter can take a toll on our nails. A simple way to prevent nails from succumbing to the dry air is with a Rescuerxx Daily Keratin Treatment from CND. It nourishes and strengthens the nail with jojoba oil and keratin proteins so you’re less prone to cracks. You should apply to bare nails twice daily for about 4 weeks to see the best results.
Now that your nails are in tip-top shape, Chicagoans can take advantage of their weekly manicure without paying full price ever again. PrettyQuick is one of my favorite ways to instantly book beauty treatments in Chicago. It’s like Open Table for beauty, and they’ve just launched a feature where you can get up to 30% off last-minute bookings. To get you ready for the holidays, Pretty Quick is offering WGN viewers $20 toward a beauty service of your choice with code WGN20.  Here’s the link to redeem the code:prettyquick.com/redeem/wgn20

During the winter, tights are a wardrobe staple. But how many wears can you really get out of one pair before you accidentally get a run? Here’s a simple DIY that will ensure you’ll never be in this predicament again. This tip went viral on the internet, we tested it out on TheBeautyGirl.com and it really works. Before you wear new tights, run them under water until they’re damp. Freeze them in a plastic bag overnight, which helps to strengthen the fibers in the material. Then give them a day or two to defrost.
