Lead cast for the Harry Potter play was announced Sunday night and the internet went wild.

Fans impatiently waited on information about the main cast ever since the play started its pre-production.  While there haven’t been many comments on the new Harry and Ron, Hermione triggered quite a discussion.

Why? A black woman was cast to play her.

According to CNN, Swaziland-born, Noma Dumezweni, is a well established English actress with an Olivier Award for her role in A Raisin in the Sun.

The reason some fans have been up in arms about the announcement is because in the original series, Hermione was played by caucasian actress Emma Watson.

The best-selling author of the Harry Potter books, J.K. Rowling, was fast to shut down all negative comments.

But some claim the books also confirm that Hermione was caucasian.

However, most fans are thrilled with the new Hermione and disagree with everyone who has been commenting on her race.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is based on a new original story created by Jack Thorne, John Tiffany, and J.K. Rowling herself, and is set 19 years after the original story ended.

The play is scheduled to open in July 2016 in London.
