CHICAGO -- A coalition of community groups says it has collected more than 250,000 signatures, calling on Mayor Emanuel and Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez to resign.

The group delivered boxes of petitions to City Hall Monday.

Activists say Emanuel and Alvarez should step down for failing to hold the Chicago Police Department accountable for the killing of Laquan McDonald.

Organizers say the petitions from from all over country, not just Chicago.

So far, Emanuel and Alvarez have dismissed calls to resign.

Alvarez is running for state's attorney again next year, and Emanuel has more than three years left in his term.
