CHICAGO – A Cubs fan recently put a fun spin on a legendary Beatles song to welcome Jason Heyward to Chicago.

YouTube user Danny Rockett, whose avatar shows him in a Cubs hat enjoying food and baseball on a sunny day at Wrigley Field, uploaded a video last week that parodies the song “Hey Jude,” changing the lyrics as a welcome message to new Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward.

“Heyward, you are the man, made the Cubs so much freakin’ better,” the tune begins. “Now winning the Central (Division) won’t be so hard; you left the Cards, and made us better.”

Perhaps most impressive of all is that the parody lasts nearly as long as the original song: just over seven minutes.

“The starting lineup is insane, chill the champagne,” the singer confidently belts out later in the song, remarking on the potential of the batting order, which also will include new Cubs infielder/outfielder Ben Zobrist.

Heyward, 26, signed an eight-year, $184 million deal with the Cubs on Friday. The move came a few days after the North Siders inked Ben Zobrist, most recently of the World Champion Kansas City Royals, to a four-year, $56 million deal. Both deals are expected to boost a lineup that already has Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Kyle Schwarber and Miguel Montero.

Adds the song, “I can’t wait for next season to begin, we’re gonna win.”

“Welcome to Chicago Jason!,” reads a graphic at the end of the video.

The Cubs won 97 games behind manager Joe Maddon in 2015. They beat Heyward’s former team, the Cardinals, in the playoffs before getting swept by the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series.
