EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Police say a woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries when she was shot by her teenage son in the parking lot of a Target store in Evansville.
According to the Evansville Courier & Press, Evansville police said the incident happened at about 9:40 p.m. Thursday— a few hours into the Black Friday rush for Target, which opened at 6 p.m.
City police say the woman and her 15-year-old son were sitting in a van Thursday night when the boy removed the handgun from under a seat. Police say the teen believed the gun’s safety was on when he pulled its trigger.
The woman was shot in the back and taken to a hospital from the store on the city’s east side.
Police say the shooting appears accidental and that no criminal charges have been filed.
