Polish cargo ship attacked off Nigeria; 5 abducted

WARSAW, Poland — Poland’s government says that five Polish seamen, including four officers, have been abducted from a ship on Nigerian waters.

Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said Friday the five were abducted Thursday night from the Polish cargo ship Szafir. Some 11 other crew members are barricaded inside the ship, he said.

Waszczykowski said negotiations will be opened with the abductors. The ship was traveling from Belgium to Nigeria.
