3 teens dead in fiery McHenry County crash

MCHENRY, Ill. -- Three teenagers died in a car crash and fire Friday afternoon near McHenry in McHenry County, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 2:10 p.m.Friday in the 1300 block of South Lily Lake Road outside McHenry.

According to a release from the McHenry County coroner's office, the car was headed south when it left the road, went down a ravine and landed on the driver's side, according to the release.

All of the victims were 18 years old. They have been identified as James Seward of McHenry, who was driving. Kelly Cronin of Island Lake and Promise Williamsen of Holiday Hills were passengers.

Seward's father says his son was headed to get an estimate to fix a problem with the car's rear axle.

All three teens were buckled in but did not survive.
