Defaced portraits of African-American professors investigated as hate crime

CAMBRIDGE, Ma — Harvard police are investigating a hate crime after portraits of its African-American professors were defaced.

Students at the law school discovered someone putting strips of black tape over the images.

Authorities say they consider it an act of hate.

The black tape on the portraits was eventually removed and replaced by notes of encouragement.

No charges have been filed.
