Thank you, veterans: Free and discounted meals on Veterans Day
CHICAGO — Restaurants in Chicagoland and throughout the country are honoring retired and active military personnel this Veterans Day by offering servicemen and women food specials.
Here are some of the eateries offering discounts, free meals or specials on Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11). Check back for more additions.
— Applebee’s: Active and retired military can choose a meal from the chain’s “Thank You” menu free of cost. The menu includes a 7 oz. House Sirloin, The American Standard Burger, Three-Cheese Chicken Penne, Fiesta Lime Chicken, Double Crunch Shrimp, Chicken Tenders Platter or Oriental Chicken Salad. Valid ID or uniform required.
— Bar Louie: On Tuesday and Wednesday, veterans and active military can get a free appetizer or entree up to a $12 value. Military ID or proof of service is required. The offer is valid at every Bar Louie location in the country.
— Bob Evans: On Wednesday veterans and active duty military personnel can enjoy a free breakfast all day long, according to the restaurant’s website. The special menu includes five breakfast options and is valid with proof of military service.
— Chili’s: Veterans and military personnel can enjoy a free entree from a special menu at Chili’s on Veterans Day. The menu includes a burrito, any lunch combo and a grilled chicken salad, among other items. Proof of military service is required.
— Cooper’s Hawk Winery: With the purchase of any entree, U.S. veterans will receive a complimentary glass of wine, according to the Chicago Tribune. The winery has multiple locations in Illinois.
Famous Dave’s: The barbecue chain is offering a free “One Meat Salute” for veterans and active military. Participants can choose from St. Louis Style-Spareribs, Georgia Chopped Pork, Texas Beef Brisket, Country-Roasted Chicken or Barbeque Chicken. Valid at participating locations.
— Golden Corral: On Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., any veteran or U.S. military member can get a free Veterans Day buffet and beverage. Offer is valid at all Golden Corral locations.
— IHOP: According to the Tribune, veterans and active military can get a stack of red, white and blue pancakes at IHOP from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Proof of military duty must be shown to receive the promotion.
— Krispy Kreme doughnuts: Krispy Kreme is celebrating Veterans Day by offering a free doughnut and small coffee to all veterans at participating Krispy Kreme locations. No ID is required.
— Olive Garden: All veterans and active military will receive a free meal from a special menu on Veterans Day. The menu includes spaghetti, ravioli, garlic rosemary chicken and other items. Their families will also receive a 10 percent discount on their meals.
— Rockit Ranch Productions: Rockit Bar & Grill, Rockit Burger Bar, Sunda, Bottlefork and The Duck Inn are offering veterans and active military 50 percent off of meals, the Tribune reports. Learn more about Rockit Ranch and their locations here.
— Stretch Bar & Grill: According to the Tribune, veterans will receive 50 percent off their entire tab with proof of military identification on Veterans Day. The bar is located at 3485 N. Clark St.
— Texas Roadhouse: Veterans can enjoy a free lunch at Texas Roadhouse from the restaurant’s special Veterans Day menu. Items include a 6 oz sirloin steak, a pulled pork dinner and the All-American Cheeseburger.
