CHICAGO – Police continue to investigate the fatal shooting of a 9-year-old boy on Chicago’s South Side.

Sources tell WGN Tyshawn Lee may have been the intended target of the shooting.  The Chicago Tribune reports the boy’s gang affiliation may be to blame.  Still other police sources say Tyshawn may have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Whatever the reason, his mother Karla Lee lost her son.  She made an emotional plea at a short news conference Tuesday afternoon saying, “I love my son.  I’m going to miss him.  If anyone knows anything…”

Flanked by family and victim services, Karla held on tightly to a photo of her son as she pleaded for someone to come forward.

Earlier in the day community and church leaders canvased the Aurburn Gresham neighborhood where Lee was shot yesterday.
Lee was shot in an alley near 80th and Damen just steps from his grandmother’s home.  His basketball was found not far from his body.

By the end of this afternoon the reward for information had been raised to $20,000.

A visitation will be held next Monday at  Acklin Funeral Home, located at 1325 W 87th St.  Then next Tuesday, a funeral will be held at St Sabina church.
