CHICAGO — Amazon has released its  first trailer for Spike Lee’s upcoming new film, “Chi-raq.”

The controversial new film portrays Chicago’s gang violence, and has caused a stir among many communities in the city.

The trailer begins with a flashing sign reading “This is an emergency,” followed by news bulletins and Samuel L. Jackson exclaiming, “Welcome to Chi-raq,” a common nickname for the city based on its high volume of fatal shootings. Jackson’s character goes on to label Chicago as the “land of pain, misery and strife.”

It appears the film’s story will center around women in the city withholding sex to stop the violence. The film is based on the Greek comedy “Lysistrata,” by Aristophanes. Teyonah Parris will star as Lysistrata.

The movie stars Jackson, Wesley Snipes, Parris, Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson, Nick Cannon, John Cusack and Dave Chappelle.

The trailer ends with Jackson throwing up two fingers in front of a Chicago flag, yelling, “Peace!”

“Chi-raq” will be released in select theaters Dec. 4, followed by a release on Amazon’s streaming service.
