CHAMPAIGN, Ill. --  The campus newspaper at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is apologizing for a cartoon it published.

On Tuesday, The Daily Illini published a syndicated cartoon showing trick or treaters. One person is seen climbing a fence, saying, "I'm going as an illegal immigrant."

Minority groups on campus were outraged and said the cartoon was racist.

The Daily Illini apologized for publishing the cartoon, saying it was a careless oversight.

The worker who put it in was suspended.

The newspaper has cut ties with the wire service company that provided the cartoon.
