CHICAGO -- Three people were shot while they were sitting in a car on the North Side. As they drove themselves to the hospital, their cart struck a nurse who was riding her bike near the hospital.

The injured nurse, Karen Irene Thomas, underwent surgery and is expected to recover.

Thomas  was hit by the shooting victims’ car on the sidewalk as she rode her bike last night.

The initial shooting happened around 10:15 p.m. Thursday 1500 block of West Morse in Rogers Park.

All three occupants  were hit by bullets. The driver opted to not wait for an ambulance  and instead raced to St Francis Hospital, plowing over the Thomas in the process.

Two gunshot victims were admitted to the hospital. The third victim was released.

Police are searching for suspects.
