A 95-year-old man called into a BBC Radio show, saying he was lonely and missed his wife after she  had to be put in a nursing home.

So  radio host Alex Dyke invited listener Bill Palmer to join him live in studio.

The station sent a car to Palmer's house and brought him in as a guest on the show.

He was a big hit with listeners who offered to take him out to lunch on Sundays and afternoon trips throughout the week to help him occupy his day.
