ALDERSON, W. Va. –Former Chicago alderman Sandi Jackson is now a federal prison inmate.

Jackson reported to jail within the past hour at a minimum security facility in West Virginia.

She will serve a one-year sentence for filing a false tax return.

The beginning of her sentence comes just one month after her husband, Jesse Jackson Jr., completed his prison sentence.

They pleaded guilty to charges related to the theft of $750,000 from his campaign fund.

The judge allowed the couple to stagger their sentences so one of them could care for their two children.
